multigroup analysis group of path analysis model with gender, age, and length of residence as
explanatory variables was used.
The results revealed a preference for the model with constant path coefficients. In the model, the estimated path coefficients confirmed that older age and longer years of residence in Takatsuki City were factors that accelerated returns.

There seems to be a stream that it means data analytical methods. Genuine understanding of data science requires knowledge of both data collection process and
data analytical methods. Thus, this study reconsiders the significance of Chikio Hayashi’s definition of “data science” and warns against relying entirely on data analysis methods which should be referred to as
“analysis method bias.” By reviewing the current state of pre-election polls and public opinion research, this study emphasizes that a sincere approach to the data collection processes is of great significance.

PapersCross-National Comparison of Social Contribution Attitudes in Japan, the United States, and South Korea: Linkage Comparison of Civil Society Surveys Using Two ModesUnrefereedIn-house publicationSingle-AuthorMATSUMOTO,Wataru;;;Journal of InformaticsNo.43, pp.43-642016/2/29~Faculty of Informatics, Kansai UniversityThis study analyzes the cross-national comparison of social contribution attitudes in Japan, the United States, and South Korea to clarify exploratory the international location of social contribution attitudes in Japan. The cross-national surveys comprise two modes: face-to-face and telephone. Thus, comparative linkage analysis is used. This study performed complementary analysis using both simple comparison of frequent distribution and multiple correspondence analysis. The analysis reconfirmed that altruistic or charitable activities, such as volunteer work or donation, are more valued in the United States than those in Japan and South Korea.Considering the results that individual rights are more valuable than public interests in the United States, interpretation of implications may differ for each country and require prudence.
PapersRelationship between Attitude for Volunteer Participation and Views of Japanese Society: From the 12th and 13th Nationwide Surveys on the Japanese National CharacterIn refereedAcademic JournalSingle-AuthorMATSUMOTO,Wataru;;;;;Proceedings of the Institute of Statistical MathematicsVol.63, No.2, pp.243-2602015/12~The Institute of Statistical MathematicsThis study analyzes factors affecting the attitudes of volunteer participation in the 12th and 13th Surveys on the Japanese National Character using multinomial logistic (MNL) regression. The MNL regression analyses use data divided into the free competition group and the protection group for the weak, and their results are compared to examine whether and how the factors behind the attitudes of these two groups differ. In both the 12th and the 13th surveys, we find that divided models show a better fit than non-divided ones and that different variables of the models for the two groups are significant. Thus, it is considered that volunteer participation in these two groups is driven by different factors. Moreover, different variables are significant between the 12th and 13th surveys in the both groups. In particular, many significant variables differ for the free competition group. This finding suggests that the decision mechanism for attitudes or character of the free competition group has changed over the examined five-year period.

PapersCross-National Comparability of Trust in Organizations: Focusing on the Singapore Sample of the East Asia Values SurveyUnrefereedIn-house publicationSingle-AuthorMATSUMOTO,Wataru;Singapore;Cross-National Comparability;Cultural Linkage Analysis;Journal of InformaticsNo.42, pp.57-792015/2/28~Generally, it is difficult to conduct a cross-national comparison of cultural affairs. Especially, a cross-national comparison, including Singapore, is more difficult because the country has many ethnic groups and several different languages. This study addresses the cross-national comparability of trust in organizations, especially focusing on the Singapore sample of the East Asia Values Survey (EAVS), and tries to expand the usability of the cultural linkage analysis (CLA), one of cross-cultural research methods. So, several methods of categorical principal component analysis (CATPCA) and multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis are used for trust in organizations of the EAVS data. Therefore, the study suggested that multiethnic countries such as Singapore could be included in the cross-cultural comparisons using group stratification or item separation. It implies this study attempted and achieved to expand the possible application of the CLA.
