PapersPreparation of Pd/MOF and Ru/MOF Catalysts and Catalytic Performance for Hydrogenation and Cross-coupling reactionsIn refereedAcademic JournalCo-authorMIYAKE,Takanori;Sawai, Tadashi;Yonehara, Takahiro;Yonezawa, Akihiro;Sano, Makoto;Suzuki, Toshimitsu2014/1~Metal-organic framework compound consisting of terephthalic acid and chromium cation (TPA-Cr) was prepared by the hydrothermal method and characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption-desoprtion isotherm, TGA-DTA and TEM. The prepared TPA-Cr was crystalline and phase-pure. Noble metal was supported on TPA-Cr by the conventional impregnation method. The specific Pd salt and solvent for impregnation significantly influenced the location of Pd. With Pd(NH3)4(NO3)2 dissolved in water, Pd was located in the micropores of TPA-Cr, whereas with PdCl2 dissolved in water or methanol, Pd was located on the external surface of TPA-Cr.
Hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde and crotonaldehyde, and cross-coupling between aryl bromides and phenylboronic acid were studied using Pd/TPA-Cr and Ru/TPA-Cr prepared as above. Hydrogenation of the two model aldehydes occurred in the micro- and meso-pores of TPA-Cr whereas cross-coupling reaction of bulkier compounds occurred mostly on the external surface of TPA-Cr.

Via 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde, glycerine hydrogenolysis proceeded, and 1-propanol was obtained mainly at high reaction temperatures, while 1,3-propanediol was produced selectively at low temperatures.

Choice of metal sources influenced greatly on their structural properties and therefore their catalytic performances. Under the optimized reaction conditions, hydrogenation of lactic acid afforded 97.3% yield of 1,2-propanediol with high productivity of 16.7 mmol/g-catalyst/h.

PapersHydrogenation of Dimethyl Adipate to 1,6-Hexanediol on Rh-Sn CatalystsIn refereedAcademic JournalCo-authorMIYAKE,Takanori;Kojima, Yuuki;Kotani, Shingo;Sano, Makoto;Suzuki, ToshimitsuJournal of the Japan Petroleum institute2013/5~Hydrogenation of dimethyl adipate (DMA) to 1,6-hexanediol (1,6-HDO) was studied on supported noble metal-Sn binary catalysts at 300 ºC and 9.1 MPa of H2 in an autoclave. Binary catalysts were prepared by the conventional impregnation method and characterized by XRD, TPR and XPS. Among the catalysts studied, Rh-Sn supported on α-Al2O3 gave the highest 1,6-HDO yield. A novel reaction scheme including 6-hydroxyhexyl methyl adipate produced by an ester-exchange reaction between DMA and 1,6-HDO, was proposed. The molar ratio of Sn to Rh greatly influenced the catalytic performance. Discussion on the active site structure and valences of Rh and Sn is given. Comparison of the catalytic performance with reported catalysts suggested that Rh-Sn and reported Ru-Sn catalysts gave superior selectivity for 1,6-HDO to reported Cu-Cr catalyst at the same DMA conversion.

Using polyethyleneglycol of proper molecular weight, monomeric dispersion of VOx was attained. Highly dispersed VOx on SiO2 showed high oxidative dehydrogenation activity of propane to propylene.

Existence of beta-cyclodextrin improved the dispersion of Ni and this resulted in higher performance of this catalyst in CO2 reforming of methane. In the aqueous solution, chemical interaction between beta-cyclodextrin and Ni3+ was evidenced by mass-spectroscopic analysis.

Vanadium oxide loaded on SiO2 from V(t-BuO)3O afforded a high propylene selectivity of 88.3% with a propane conversion of 26.5% based on the lattice oxygen of vanadium oxide. The catalyst prepared with V(t-BuO)3O exhibited higher propane conversion and propylene selectivity than that prepared with NH4VO3. Raman, XPS, and XRD analyses revealed that isolated VO43− species seem to be active sites in the ODHP. For the dehydrogenation of propane, the lattice oxygen of the isolated VO43− species was used to give propylene and H2O. The isolated VO43− species was reduced to the isolated V3+ species and was regenerated by oxidation with oxygen. The activity was maintained for at least 10 repeated cycles, suggesting that VOx/SiO2 would be a promising catalyst for ODHP.

MiyakeElsevier2011/4~Hydrogenation of methyl laurate was studied using the binary Ru–Sn and the ternary Ru–Sn–Pt catalysts, both supported on Al2O3. The catalysts were suspended in neat methyl ester, and the reaction was carried out at 300 °C and 9.15 MPa (Gauge pressure) of H2 in an autoclave. The catalysts were prepared by the conventional co-impregnation method and characterized by XRD and nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherm. Elution of metals during the reaction was measured by ICP. Under the adopted reduction conditions of the catalyst precursor, not all the Sn species were reduced to Sn metal; our study revealed that a part of SnO2 dissolved during the reaction. The addition of Pt to Ru–Sn/γ-Al2O3 promoted reduction of the Sn species, prevented the elution of Sn and gave a higher catalytic performance.
