PapersA study to examine the thermal environment on sleep and physiological responses in shelter-analogue settings in winterIn refereedYosuke Mochizuki, Kazuki Maeda, Kazuyo Tsuzuki, Yuki NabeshimaJournal of Environmental Engineering (Japan)83,747,465-4722018/5/1~10.3130/aije.83.4651881-817XThe aim of this study was to investigate sleep in evacuation shelter-analogue settings in winter using disaster relief blankets and ordinary futons. Subject experiments were conducted to examine the sleep variables using actigraphy and the environmental conditions in a gymnasium during winter. The Sleep Efficiency Index and sleeping time decreased significantly in Hie first night when using disaster blankets. The mean skin temperature was significantly lower for sleeping times using disaster blankets. However, no significant difference in rectal temperature was found between the blankets and a pair of futons.
PapersEffect of thermal environment on sleep quality in actual bedroom in summer by sleep stages analysisIn refereedYuichi Akiyama, Emika Miyake, Riho Matsuzaki, Masayuki Ogata, Kazuyo Tsuzuki, Shin-Ichi TanabeJournal of Environmental Engineering (Japan)83,745,277-2842018/3/1~10.3130/aije.83.2771881-817XThis field survey was conducted during the summer in actual bedrooms, and used polysomnography to evaluate how the thermal environment affected sleep quality. Sleep quality was evaluated by analyzing electroencephalogram, electro-oculogram, and electromyogram signals, which were measured continuously during sleep. It was found that the effect of the thermal environment i.e., air temperature, velocity and turbulence, on sleep quality varied according to the sleep cycle and stages. In relation, the effect of air turbulence depends mainly on the air temperature. Air turbulence affected sleep when temperatures were low or neutral. Under warm temperatures, air turbulence had few effect on sleep.

Keynote addressThe effect of the various thermal environment on the physiological-psychological responses and the work efficiency of the fatigue conditionYASUOKA Ayako, TSUZUKI KazuyoAbstracts of Annual Congress of The Japan Society of Home Economics2017~目的 温熱環境の変化が、疲労や作業効率の影響因子になることが定性的にわかりつつあり、適切な温熱環境の調整が疲労軽減や作業効率向上といった執務者の便益向上に寄与すると考えられる。

Data on the thermal environment were collected automatically by thermal recording devices, and data on thermal sensation, thermal comfort, room temperature evaluation, and acceptability were collected from 12 young and 12 elderly individuals during daily life in the summer (2012 or 2013). Regarding the physiological responses, skin temperature data (chest, forearm, thigh, and shin) were collected from all subjects. The mean ambient temperature of the elderly subjects was 31.5℃ at relaxation, which was approximately 2℃ higher than that of young individuals. Moreover, wet-bulb globe temperate values of more than 28℃ accounted for approximately 50%. Under high ambient temperature, the shin skin temperature tended to remain low in some elderly subjects; thus, a decline in the regulation of body temperature ability was confirmed. Appropriate environmental control behavior, including using air-conditioning and clothing insulation adjustment, is needed in elderly individuals.

Each sample plate was removed at an interval of four weeks to measure the color difference with a chroma meter. Subsequently, the smell desorbed by the samples was analyzed with a three-point comparison-type smell-bag method and by instrumental analysis. ΔE*ab increased until the 20th week, after which the change was small. The odor concentration was the highest during the 8th to the 12th week, and the difference was seen in the peak time for the odor and the odor concentration of the three samples.

Keynote addressP-11 Analyzer for Transient Thermal EnvironmentSAKOI Tomonori, KURAZUMI Yoshihito, MOCHIDA Tohru, IIZUKA Kojiro, TSUZUKI Kazuyo, KAMIYA Takeshi人間-生活環境系シンポジウム報告集2014~Solar radiation and airflow as well as air temperature and humidity are important factors for thermal comfort and the risk of heat disorder in outdoor environment. Fluctuations of solar radiation and airflow make it difficult to measure these factors accurately. We proposed a theory to measure solar radiation, long wave radiation from sky and features, and air velocity at times. The measurement requires 2 white and 2 black (total 4) heating prolate spheroids. For each color, one spheroid maintains at T_1 and the other maintains T_2. The fluctuations of solar radiation, long wave radiation, and air flow are detected as the electric power to maintain the temperature of the spheroids. For establishing measurement instruments according to our theory, we developed 2 white and 2 black (total 4) heating prolate spheroids and determined their solar absorption factors.

Although the mean concentrations of dust and CO were less than those specified by the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, both parameters exceeded the guidelines at times of peak usage. It was speculated that the ventilation system was insufficient for the maximum number of people using the room. The results confirm that the semiconductor gas sensor enables improved analysis of odor compounds present in cigarette smoke.

This paper suggests no clothing except for the clothing with negative thermal insulation can satisfy this definition. When SET^* is applied for occupants in high activity intensity, the erroneous standard clothing along with the too less sweat secretion of the two node model leads underestimation in perceived temperature. In order to eliminate the error, we proposed new standard clothing that gives the neutral thermal sensation in the environment with 20 ℃ and calm air and an improved two node model. Provisional SET^* was calculated based on these new standard clothing and the improved two node model. The provisional SET^* translated to the original SET^* scale for various activities improved the underestimation in perceived temperature by the original SET^*.

The mean skin temperature was 33.5℃,31℃,30.5℃,and 29℃ in the radiant heating, forced air heating, floor heating. and no heating environments, respectively. The old men were colder and more uncomfortable than the young men and old women in the undressing room. The systolic blood pressure (SBP)increased significantly when the subject walked from 25℃ to the undressing room. The SBP was significantly higher in the 01d men and women than the young men in the undressing room.
PapersEffects of heat shock and low ambient temperature on the human body of the elderlyTsuzuki Kazuyo, Yasuoka AyakoAbstracts of Annual Congress of The Japan Society of Home Economics64,0,-2012~To investigate the effects of heating systems on the human body, experiments were conducted with 6 young (24 +/- 4 years old) and 6 old men (69 +/- 5 years old). The climatic chambers were set at air temperature (Ta) of 10 °C and 25 °C with 50% relative humidity (RH). Undressing room (1.8 m x 1.8 m x 2.2 m) was heated for 20 min by one of three different heating apparatuses with the same electric power (500W) before the subject entered. The Ta in the undressing room was at between 14°C and 17 °C when the subject walked from 25 °C chamber and stripped down, and then increased to between 18°C and 22°C during the experiment. The rectal temperature was higher in the old men than the young men although no significant difference was found in the mean skin temperature (MST). The MST was 33.5°C, 31°C, 30.5°C, and 29°C in the radiant heating, forced air heating, floor heating, and no heating, respectively. The old men showed colder and more uncomfortable than the young men in the undressing room. In the 25°C no significant difference was found in the blood pressure between old and young men, however, the systolic blood pressure (SBP) increased significantly in the undressing room. The SBP was significantly higher in the old men than the young men in the undressing room. The SBP of the young men using radiant heating was significantly lower than that using the carpet and no heating, however, there was no significant difference in the SBP for the old men among the heating conditions.

PapersComparison of thermal responses between young children and mothers during cold exposureTsuzuki Kazuyo, Tochihara Yutaka, Ohnaka TadakatsuAbstracts of Annual Congress of The Japan Society of Home Economics60,0,247-2472008~To investigate thermal responses of children during cold exposure, children and their mothers were exposed to identical environmental conditions in climatic chambers. Subjects comprised 14 mothers (age, 29-40 years) and 15 children (age, 15 months-3 years; 9 boys, 6 girls). Each mother and child wore a t-shirt and short pants over underwear. Subjects were initially seated in a chamber at 25 C for 60 min, then moved to a chamber at 15C where they were seated for 30 min. During the recovery period, they were returned to the 25 C chamber and kept there for an additional 30 min. During exposure to 15 C, declines in skin temperature (Ts) of the hand and foot were significantly greater in children than in mothers. Rectal temperatures (Tre) of children increased during cold exposure, whereas Tre of mothers decreased. This variation in Tre in children might be linked to homodynamic alterations accompanied by greater decreases in Ts of the extremities due to a greater degree of vasoconstriction in distal regions during cold exposure. Increases in Tre during cold exposure for children correlated with body surface area to mass (Ab/mass), mass and decreases in Ts of the abdomen, thigh and leg. A gender difference was found only with regard to Tre and heart rate (HR) responses in children during cold exposure, and neither physical characteristics nor any Ts differed between genders. Furthermore, no significant differences were observed in resting HR of mothers and girls, whereas boys showed significantly lower heart rates at 15 C than at 25 C.

PapersSeasonal thermal environment of sleep and thermoregulatory responses in the elderly peopleTsuzuki Kazuyo, Sakoi Tomonori, Mizuno Kazue人間-生活環境系シンポジウム報告集30,,225-2282006~The field survey on thermal environment, sleep, thermoregulation and sensation during the nocturnal sleep period was carried out in the winter, summer and autumn seasons. Prior to the field survey, the sleep efficiency index by the actigraph was compared to that by the PSG measurements including the electroencephalogram (EEG; C3-A2, C4-AI and O1-A2), electrooculogram (EOG) and mental electromyogram (EMG) during the climatic experiment. The subjects were eight older male. The good correlationship between the actigraph and PSG was obtained, however, the sleep efficiency by the actigraph was higher than that by the PSG Thirteen volunteers participated in the field survey in the winter, summer and autumn seasons. The file survey showed that the ambient temperature in the summer season was significantly higher than that in autumn and winter seasons and ambient humidity was lowest in the winter season. The number of beddings and clothing insulation significantly less in the summer season than those in autumn and winter seasons. The timing of going to bed was not different among the three seasons, however, the timing of good morning was earliest in the summer season. The duration of sleeping was shorter in the summer season than that in the autumn and winter seasons. The onset of sleep and the duration of wakefulness were longer in the summer season than that in the autumn and winter seasons. Consequently the sleep efficiency was lowest in the summer season.

Characteristics of Poreflon^<[〇!R]> tube and hollow threaded membrane with pore diameter of 20 rim were investigated for this device. An analytical model was proposed to describe gas diffusion from the side of hollow threaded tubes. In this model, a flow volume was proportional to the related pressure drop. In a small wind tunnel, CO_2 gas was diffused from the hollow tubes at 3 flow rates, and distributions of CO_2 gas diffusion were compared with calculated distributions by the model. The measured CO_2 gas diffusion around the head of the tube tended to be larger than that of the model as the CO_2 flow rate became larger. The authors painted hollow threaded membrane with pore diameter of 20 nm in a fixed interval and measured distributions of CO_2 gas diffusion from it Painting can be utilized to control distributions of CO_2 gas diffusion from the hollow threaded membrane.

PapersThermal sensation and thermoregulation for elderly peopleTsuzuki Kazuyo, Mizuno KazueAbstracts of Annual Congress of The Japan Society of Home Economics56,0,212-2122004~<b>目的</b><br>自分で温度制御して快適な環境を作るという実験においては,高齢者と青年の快適だと感じる温度には差を認めていない。

PapersTypical Thermal Environment for Young Children Dwelling in and around the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.TSUZUKI Kazuyo, IIZUKA Sachiko, MITSUTSUJI Saeko, IKEDA Asako, TOMITA Junko, TOCHIHARA Yutaka, OHNAKA TadakatsuJournal of Home Economics of Japan52,5,429-4382001~0913-5227A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the thermal environment experienced by young children in both summer and winter. The questionnaire consisted of two parts; the basic and the fact-finding questionnaires. The first part was designed to reveal the detailed characteristics of environmental preferences for both young children and their mothers as well as mothers' behavior regarding thermoregulation and their living environments. The second part sought information regarding the measurement of room temperatures, the activities, clothing and mothers' thermal sensations at home. The second part including the measurement of room temperature was conducted four times (9-10 AM, 1-2 PM, 5-6 PM, 8-10 PM) on a chosen day in winter as well as in summer.<BR>The results are as follows.<BR>1) Over 90% of the case, use of the heating and cooling equipment depended on the mother's thermal sensation in winter, while, 50% of the case, mother's thermal sensation led the behavioral thermal regulation at home in summer. The choice of children's clothing depended on weather (80%), mother' s thermal sensation (40%), and room temperature (20%).<BR>2) The field survey showed that the average ambient air temperatures in the dwelling where mothers and their children lived were 18°C in winter and 28°C in summer.<BR>3) The young children's clothing was one or two pieces fewer than mothers' both in summer and winter. The average clothing insulation for mothers was estimated to be 0.35 clo and 1.05 clo in summer and winter respectively, while the clothing insulation for children was estimated to be 0.1 clo and 0.3 clo less than that for mothers in summer and winter respectively.<BR>4) The relationship between ambient air temperatures and the mothers' thermal sensations was good in both winter and summer. The neutral temperatures for mothers that were determined from respective liner regression were 16°C and 26°C in winter and summer respectively. The other neutral temperatures determined by mothers' clothing insulation were 21°C and 27 °C in winter and summer respectively.

PapersThermoregulation during Hot and Warm Exposures of Infants Compared to Their Mothers.TSUZUKI-HAYAKAWA KazuyoJournal of Home Economics of Japan49,4,409-4151998~0913-5227This study was conducted to investigate the thermoregulatory responses of infants during hot and warm exposures. After the subjects first rested in a thermoneutral room (28°C air temperature, 50 % relative humidity), they were then exposed to a hot (35°C, 70%) or warm (31°C, 50%) condition for 30 min and then returned to the thermoneutral room where they stayed for an additional 30 min. The rectal temperature (<I>T</I>re), mean skin temperature (<I>T</I>sk) and total sweat rate (<I>M</I>sw, t) were measured and compared to the responses of their mothers. The <I>T</I>re of infants rose during the hot exposure, even though their <I>M</I>sw, t was twice that of their mothers, and the infants had higher <I>T</I>sk than the mothers. This result was supported by our previous study (Tsuzuki-Hayakawa <I>et al</I>., 1995). The rise in <I>T</I>re of infants was especially rapid during the hot exposure, and was significantly higher at the end of the exposure than that obtained at the end of the warm trial. <I>M</I>sw, t of infants was almost identical at both warm and hot exposures, although the heat loads were clearly different under the conditions of hot and warm. This indicates the thermoregulatory response of infants does not work well and a higher excitability of the sweat centers is evident. Also, infants are more easily dehydrated during warm and hot exposures.
PapersSeasonal Variation and Age Difference in Thermal Responses under Preferred Temperatures Determined by the Mothers.TSUZUKI-HAYAKAWA Kazuyo, OHNAKA Tadakatsu, TOCHIHARA YutakaJournal of Home Economics of Japan49,10,1109-11171998~0913-5227Fourteen mothers along with their young children participated in this study to investigate the preferred temperatures, the seasonal variation in comfort levels, and thermophysiological responses. The test room temperature was preset at 25°C and was thereafter continually increased or decreased in increments of 0.4°C every minute. The direction of change was controllable by the mother subject who could achieve thermal comfort. The test duration was 40 min. While no significant differences were noted in the preferred and maximum temperatures between the summer and winter seasons, there are significantly seasonal differences in thermal sensation and physiological responses. The subjects reported that they felt cool during the summer experiments and warm during the winter experiments. The <I>T</I>sk (mean skin temperature) for both the mothers and children were observed significantly higher in the summer than the winter under preferred temperatures. Also, thermal comfort and thermophysiological responses were compared at 25 t to investigate the age difference, menstrual cycle of the women, and sex difference of children between the summer and winter seasons. TS (thermal sensation) and CS (comfort sensation) in the summer were reported cooler and more comfortable than that in the winter at 25 °C. The <I>Tsk</I> of the children was observed significantly higher than that of the mother at 25°C.

PapersThermal responses of children and their mothers under preferred temperature determined by the parentsTSUZUKI-HAYAKAWA K, OHNAKA T, TOCHIHARA Y, KATO SJAPANESE JOURNAL OF BIOMETEOROLOGY32,2,103-1091995~0389-1313The purpose of this study is to investigate the variation in comfort levels and thermal responses of children and mothers in the same environment. Thirteen mothers (ages 25-39) along with their young children (ages 9 months-4.5 years) served as summertime subjects for these tests. The test room temperature setting was initialized at 25°C and was thereafter continually increased or decreased in increments of 0.4°C every minute. The direction of change was controllable by the mother who, by operating a switch, could achieve thermal comfort for herself and her children. Mean skin temperature and rectal temperature were recorded continuously during the experiment. The three air temperature readings, as determined by the mothers in the present study, were compared against those set by young women in general (Ohnaka <I>et al</I>. 1993) and while no significant differences were noted in the preferred temperature data, the maximum and minimum air temperatures determined by the mothers were, on the other hand, significantly lower and higher respectively. These results suggest that the preferred temperature determined by the mothers was controlled within a narrow temperature range. There were no significant differences between the mothers and children in both mean skin temperature and rectal temperature when, as in this case, the mothers determined the maximum and minimum air temperature. However, a change in ambient air temperature did promote a faster response in the mean skin temperature for the children than for the mothers, which suggests that the children are more sensitive to surrounding this thermal relationship than do the mothers, even in a thermoneutral zone.
