PapersCognitive ability and human behavior in experimental ultimatum gamesIn refereedAcademic JournalInternational coauthorshipOGAWA,Kazuhito;KAWAMURA tetsuya;;;Research in Economicsforthcoming2019/1~2019/110.1016/j.rie.2019.01.005Recent researches have shed light on the effect of cognitive ability on economic decision-making. By measuring cognitive ability applying Raven's progressive matrix test, we obtain two significant results that this effect affects decision-making in two types of experimental ultimatum games. First, the higher the cognitive ability, the larger the amount a sender offers when the offer is smaller than or equal to the half split. Second, the higher the responders’ cognitive ability, the smaller the offer they accept, when they accept it or not with the strategy method. This study not only finds new factors that affect decision-making in experimental ultimatum games, but also provides more evidences that cognitive ability influences economic decision-making.
PapersContagion of Self-Interested Behavior: Evidence from Group Dictator Game ExperimentsIn refereedAcademic JournalInternational coauthorshipOGAWA,Kazuhito;;;;2016~201610.1111/geer.12077We examine how group decision-making affects other-regarding behavior in experimental dictator games. In particular, we assess whether the effects of iterated games differ for group and individual decision-making and whether the difference in decision-making style (individual or group) changes the perception of social identity. We make two findings on group decision-making. First, group decisions become more selfish when repeating the game after changing group members. Second, a dictator group donates more to a recipient group at the same university than to a recipient group at a different university. These findings are not true for individual decision-making.

PapersPrecedent experience of using local currency facilitates cooperation in the public goods game: Experimental evidenceUnrefereedIn-house publicationCo-authorHideo FUTAMURA;Kazuhito OGAWA;Hiromasa Takahashi;2010~As a part of regional developments, there was a “local currency boom” in the late 20th century and the early 21st century Japan. However, few studies have examined the effect of introducing local currency on the regional developments. This study experimentally examines whether precedent experience of using local currency, of which value depreciates if players do not use the money, facilitates cooperation in the public goods game. We have two experimental results; first, in the public goods game, those who have an experience of using local currency (experiencer) act more cooperatively than those who do not have such an experience. Second, in the public goods game, experiencers act more cooperatively than those who have played the same public goods game in the first session. These results imply that precedent experience of using local currency facilitates cooperation in the public goods game. This implication supports that the utilization of local currency helps regional developments.
PapersRecent Financial Problems and the Possibility of Community Currency to Stimulate the Local EconomyIn refereedIn-house publicationCo-authorHideo FUTAMURA;Hiromasa TAKAHASHI;Kazuhito OGAWA;;The Hiroshima Journal of International Studies2009~This thesis aims to explain the recent financial problems and try to research the possibi1ity to stimulate the local economy by using community currency. Since the 1980s financial liberalization and globalization have been promoted rapidly,an d a vast volume of money has shifted from one market to others through the computer networks in the world. Lieman Brothers Shock which happened in 2008 autumn now influences a serious recession. The monetary policy seemed not to be effective and the outcome of the accelerated competition has led to the difference between the wealthy group and the poor group; especially in Japan the local area has been declining seriously. By analyzing the survey research of community currency, this thesis finally checks the possibility whether the local area in Japan will be able to recover by using community currency.

Oda;Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems vol.4, pp.131-1382007~Decision making processes of consumers and firms have emerged as a prominent field in multi-agent systems. This approach relaxes the strict assumptions in traditional economic theory. However, little attention has been paid to the validation of the simulation itself, because of the difficulty of acquiring field data which is compared with simulated markets.
